Gorkem Dizdar
Görkem Dizdar was born in Izmir on December 26, 1979. After completing his secondary education in Izmir College he got his Bachelor Degree in Physical Therapy from Dokuz Eylul University. Following to this he has received his Master of Science in the same university and still continues with his PhD.
In addition to these he has completed Mulligan Mobilisation Courses and Kinesiotaping (KT1-KT2) in 2009. In 2010 he has received his Mastery Certificate in Manuel Therapy (MCMT) with Hands-On Seminars from NY and Pilates Certification from General Directorate of Youth and Sports in Turkey. He has completed his first 8 week basic course on NDT/Bobath with European Bobath Tutors Association (EBTA) and spinal modules of McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 2011.
In 2011 he has also started working with children with Sensory Integration Disorders and completed Prechtal Analysis (General Movement Trust) in 2013. In 2014 he took a second basic course in Management and Treatment of Children with Cerebral Palsy and other Neuromotor Disorders with Neuro Developmental Treatment Association became a NDTA certified physiotherapist.
In 2015 he completed NDTA/Bobath Approved Advance Course in the Treatment of Babies in Thessaloniki, Greece also became a faculty of Hands-On Seminars and has been teaching MCMT courses in Turkey.
He has been practicing physiotherapy since 2001, working mainly with children with neurological disorders and patients with musculoskeletal problems. He has done his MSc thesis on the “Musculoskeletal Injuries of Professional Dancers” in 2006 and since then he has been consulting dancers from various dance companies. He has also taken part in many projects such as Movement for Health and Balance & Fall Prevention Programs.
He has been a member of International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) since 2002, Sports Physiotherapy Association of Turkey and Pediatric Physiotherapy Association of Turkey since 2008. He became a member of Neuro – Developmental Treatment Association (NDTA) in 2014. He also has served as a board member of Turkish Physiotherapy Association between 2013-2015 and Sports Physiotherapy Association between 2018-2019
Apart from the ones mentioned above he has done different courses through his career such as; Dry needling, Developmental Orthopedics and Orthotics, Reflexology, Body Awareness, Thera-Togs, Movement Analysis, Matrix Rhythm Therapy, Serial Casting, Postural Control and Motor Learning, NeuroKinetic Therapy, Integrated Kinetic Neurology and Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation.
In clinical practice, his treatment philosophy includes using manual therapy to restore joint mechanics followed by muscle retraining and motor control strategies to correct movement dysfunction. He believes in cleaning restrictions of body and mind in order to maintain the natural flow of the movement in human body.
His approach originates from the unique, effortless development principles of the movement in infants regardless of gender, race or religion; underlying the idea of Unity of Nature and Human. Those universal principles of human motor development forms the core of his teachings. He provides individualized, one-on-one treatment and develops exercise programs geared toward the level and goals of the patients as well as courses for movement specialists.
Gorkem has a special reputation among Yoga instructors for the point of view he provided to Asana Posture Practice of Yoga. He has done courses with yoga instructors about the natural development and the flow of movement in human body and how &why it becomes restricted over time. Especially his interpretation of the yin-yang balance on the components of motor development and its application on human body brings in so much interest to his courses and trainings.
He currently works at Oasis Movement & Wellness Studio at Istanbul and has been teaching as a guest lecturer in several universities in Turkey. The courses he teaches are, Normal/Typical Motor Development, Sensory Integration, Posture, Pediatric Neurology and NeuroDevelopmental Treatment (NDT/Bobath Concept), Orthotics, Manuel Therapy and Advanced Manipulative Techniques such as Myofascial Triggerpoint Therapy, Muscle Energy Techniques, Strain-CounterStrain Techniques, NeuroDynamics.
